Why hire a professional cleaner?
Why hire a professional cleaner? Let's first clarify exactly what makes a business professional, and what doesn't.
A professional cleaning business is licensed with the state, city and county of which you live in. They are legally able to do business within these geographic locations. Additionally they have an insurance policy to protect both parties from loss, damage that could possibly occur in unforeseen circumstances. Additionally, they have also invested in the proper equipment and supplies needed to complete a job successfully. As well as proper training and experience in the use of proper products - including PPE and personal safety, bookkeeping, marketing resources and it's expenses, and so much more.
A person who offers cleaning services as a side gig, but hasn't personally invested in running a business legally; are simply not going to be equipped to provide the quality of service that a professional cleaning business would be able to offer. There may be many limitations to their knowledge and experience. Lack the equipment to tackle a specific need. Lack the proper protections for you and them, and can easily cause problems as a result. While an unlicensed individual may charge less upfront, there’s quite often a risk vs. reward for this service.
Insured means the company carries general liability and sometimes workers’ compensation coverage. Why workers compensation? Because when hiring someone who is not insured, you CAN be subject to being sued if someone slips and falls on your kitchen floor because you spilled something, and they don't have insurance to cover their medical expenses! Most people don't think about what their own liabilities are, only what the service providers liabilities are.
I'm going to be a little bit 'in your face' and say: If the person that is providing your service has not invested in running their business properly, and you know that; however, you have elected to go
with this cleaner because they are cheaper...then you essentially got what you paid for!
That irreplaceable teacup that you adore, is now broken and a total loss, because the teenager you hired doesn't have insurance, let alone a savings account that will match its value. Or the damage that was done to your floor because the teenager you hired isn't properly trained to know that there are certain products that will ruin your floor!
An insurance policy is "protecting both parties" if something gets damaged or someone is injured while cleaning, and it happens more than you think!
These protections also show that a company takes its responsibility seriously, both legally & ethically. And it protects you from the risks that often take place. And their insurance policy is part of what your payment covers, and it’s worth every dollar!
Licensed cleaning businesses operate under policies. They are vetted! They show up on time, use professional-grade products, and follow consistent cleaning procedures.
They also value communication and transparency. They have terms and conditions listed on their business website. You’ll have their contact information, business information, clear scheduling, and also there is usually some form of guarantee that your cleaning will be completed properly.
Professional cleaning cost more because of their overhead. There is licensing fees, insurance premiums, background checks, administrative services (taxes, etc.), expensive equipment to purchase and maintain, cleaning supplies to keep replenished, and proper training. These aren’t “extra” costs, they’re essential investments that protect both you and the business.
A clean home is important, but so is your safety, security, and peace of mind. When you hire a licensed and insured cleaning company, you’re not just paying for cleaning; you’re paying for a guarantee that your space and belongings are protected by professionals who care.
Final thought: The cheapest option is rarely the best one. Choosing price over value results in you getting what you paid for!
